Early Roman Numerals

Monday, August 13th, 2012

We resumed math today and started in on early Roman numerals from 1-10. (Early Roman numerals use IIII for 4 and VIIII for 9. Later they adopted IV for 4, etc.) Sam didn’t seem all that interested in the system, but then as soon as we were done, she disappeared into her room and then returned with a different notebook. Then she turned out her own Roman Math Book:

Corners

Wednesday, August 1st, 2012

I imagine we won’t post much about our math activities. We have been doing the Right Start Math curriculum and I (Sammy Mammy) think very highly of it, especially its use of games to teach and practice concepts. One of Sam’s favorites last year (level B–first grade math) was Corners. It’s like dominos, but with multiples of 5.
