Armadillos

Monday, August 6th, 2012

Armadillos have bony plates just like most dinosaurs. Armadillos often live alone. They eat ants and other bugs. If an armadillo sees danger he or she will dive straight into their home. Armadillos can be found in North America but they often live in South America.

Bodyworlds

The three of us went to see the Bodyworlds exhibit at the SMV. You can find my brief reaction to it here.

When I asked Sam what she found most interesting, she mentioned a photography exhibit that was inserted in the main exhibit–a recent study of food consumption around the world. Families from different countries were posed with a typical week’s worth of food and the price in USD.

Sam:

the family from Chad only spends $1.24 per week on food and the family from Germany spends $500!

Topics include global warming, animals and plants.

Highlights: “If there were no animals the balance of nature would be lopsided.”

and

“Plants do a process called photosynthesis. This process releases oxygen into the air so we can breathe, then we exhale carbon dioxide for the plants to breathe. That is our way of saying thank you to the plants.”
