A Real Song

Unlike the goofy little “songs” my parents made up for me, a friend of mine made up a real song. With lyrics, and a guitar melody, and everything. Once I can get it recorded digitally, I’ll post an MP3 (or OGG) of it here. In the meanwhile, enjoy the lyrics:

Sam’s Lullabye
by Clinton A. Johnston

One little sandman tiptoes up to our house.
Peeks through the window quiet as a care.
Slips in the living room
Jumps on the chair
Skips down the hallway and tips up the stairs
To find a little baby there.

And she doesn’t want to sleep.
She doesn’t want to sleep.
So much to do, so much company to keep
Such a new, wide, world buzzing in her head
Until the little sandman says,

“Who’s got this pretty little nose?
Who’s got these pretty little eyes?
Whose toes are these teeny little toes?
Who sighs these sleepy little sighs?
Who’s got this tiny little hand
To wave little; one little sandman says, goodnight.

Two little sandmen tiptoe up to our house.
Bow to each other, spill sand everywhere
Slip in the living room
Jump on the chair
Skip down the hallway and tip up the stairs
To find a little baby there.

And she doesn’t want to sleep.
She doesn’t want to sleep.
Squirming and worming, blankets in a heap,
So much fuss at the end of day
Until the little sandmen say,

“Who’s got this pretty little nose?
Who’s got these pretty little eyes?
Whose toes are these teeny little toes?
Who sighs these sleepy little sighs?
Who’s got this tiny little hand
To wave little; two little sandmen say, goodnight.

Three little sandmen tiptoe up to our house.
Build a little ladder out of moonbeams and air
Slip in the living room
Jump on the chair
Skip down the hallway and tip up the stairs
To find a little baby there.

And she can’t get to sleep.
She can’t get to sleep.
Too young for tea, too young to count sheep,
Too young to talk about it, doesn’t know the way,
And so the little sandmen say,

“Who’s got this pretty little nose?
Who’s got these pretty little eyes?
Whose toes are these teeny little toes?
Who sighs these sleepy little sighs?
Who’s got this pretty little nose?
Who’s got these pretty little eyes?
Whose toes are these teeny little toes?
Who sighs these sleepy little sighs?
Who’s got this tiny little hand
To wave little; three little sandmen say, goodnight.

One, two, three.
Go to sleep.
One, two, three.
Not a peep
One little, two little, thee little sandmen …
Say goodnight.
